Stanton's diary is interleaved in Nathanael Low's Astronomical Diary or Almanack, 1776. It consists of brief, sporadic entries concerning his activities, the weather, and events relating to the war (e.g., the passage through Worcester of the cannon captured at Fort Ticonderoga and carried to Boston by troops under the command of Henry Knox). The oversize volume consists of accounts for general merchandise sales to residents of Worcester and surrounding towns from 1774 to 1793. In addition, there is a letter written by Stanton, January 10, 1794, concerning the collection of some outstanding debts.

Stanton, John, 1755-1796.

John Stanton (1755-1796) was born in Boston and moved to Worcester prior to the Revolution. He married Sarah Chandler in 1780 and ran a general store while also selling pottery goods. He was a Captain of the Worcester militia and commanded the Artillery Company in 1789. He had a business partnership with Samuel Flagg (1737?-1819?) of Worcester, Massachusetts.
